Thanet is a part of Kent with a very unique sense of individuality. It is comprised of three Major towns but that is not all there is to this most famous seaside resort. Thanet is a great place to buy a house, settle down and have a good life.

Thanet has two areas Dane Valley and Millmead where the number of children from families claiming out of work benefits is twice the national average so clearly there is a shortage of "unskilled" labouring work but what is not so obvious is that Thanet also contains a large number of people with a much larger than average disposable incomes. This combination of readily available labour and disposable income makes Thanet an excellent place for light commerce and industry to get itself established.
Thanet is, in fact, a dichotomy of massive wealth and deep poverty. It is this that gives Thanet its variety and breadth of marketable potential that a new business might be able to cater for and do very well from serving. With a high speed rail link due soon it also makes Thanet a great investment opportunity.
Politics
When it comes to buying or building houses or flats in Thanet then some understanding of Thanet's politics might be required. Generally voting turn out is poor with only 30% of the population voting in elections.
However this is not to say that Thanet is not vocal about it's opinions and feelings. Indeed up to 90% of Kent's blog's are thanet focused. This means that of all Kent only Thanet has a truly active grass roots media.
Developments
There are a huge number of developments going on in Thanet - some would say too many. But this has meant a large increase in the value of properties as developers and home buys compete with each other. The impact of the credit crunch of 2008 is yet to be fully realised but many feel that thanet properties may retain their value.
Not everyone in Thanet is happy about the rate of development and many feel that it is happening too fast as this hour long presentation on the subject shows.
Health and Fitness
Being a sea side location Thanet attracts many people with an enthusiasm for the outdoor life. It boasts a number of great fitness centres and swimming pools too.

In the video below we can see a number of young men from Thanet displaying some "urban skills" as well as a demonstration of personal fitness. While not a common sight this does serve to show off Thanet in a different light.
